ANGEL ISLAND BIKING TOUR!
Spring has arrived! Embrace the season by venturing outdoors to discover our splendid city, all while marveling at its attractions. Come along with UD for a delightful bike excursion and a picnic on Angel Island, commonly known as the Jewel of the San Francisco Bay. We'll cycle through picturesque trails, meandering through wooded areas of the island, and relish breathtaking, picturesque vistas of the entire Bay, encompassing the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Skyline, Marin, and Mt. Tamalpais!
What to expect:
We will meet up at the Embarcadero Ferry Building and take a 30- min ferry ride over to Angel Island. Once we get there, we'll start biking along the Angel Island bike path. This route hugs the coastline of the island and leads to all of its beaches and historical sites. Take in some beautiful views of the bay, with a stop for a picnic lunch a long the way. When everyone is tired, we will head back to the ferry and back to our cars in San Francisco!
Some History: "Ellis Island of the West"
Angel Island, located in San Francisco Bay, boasts a rich history and intriguing features. Firstly, it served as an immigration station from 1910 to 1940, often referred to as the "Ellis Island of the West," processing immigrants, primarily from Asia. The island offers stunning panoramic views of the Bay Area, providing visitors with a picturesque backdrop. Additionally, Angel Island has a unique blend of natural beauty and military history, with well-preserved historic structures and hiking trails that showcase its diverse past. Overall, this island is a captivating destination that weaves together tales of immigration, scenic landscapes, and military heritage.
Difficulty: This ride is approx 6 miles long with some moderate hills. The trail is paved and suitable for road bikes, mountain bikes, or hybrids. This trip is great for beginners wanting a challenge, or experienced bikers looking to experience the history and beauty of the area.
 
 What to bring:
- Bicycle (if you need a bike, rentals available at San Francisco Bicycle Rentals in the Ferry Building)
- Helmet + bike lock (included in the bike rental)
- Water
- Sunglasses
- Backpack
- Clipper card* - see note below
- Attire: Prepare for SF weather. Dress with layers!

*Please add a Clipper Card to your phone before the event. It will save you over $10 for your round trip ferry ticket. Once you have a clipper card on your phone, add $18.50 for your round trip ticket (includes park entrance fee). A Clipper Card is not required, but your round trip ticket will be $31 instead of $18.50. You will need to purchase a physical ticket from the ticket office if not using a Clipper Card.
