Big Sur is often hailed as the most enchanting stretch along the California coastline. Our accommodations at an incredible campground, with incredible ocean front views, promise an unforgettable experience. Days will be filled with whale watching, scenic hikes, leisurely moments in the hammock, sea glass hunting, and flying kites along the beach. Evenings will be dedicated to sunsets around the campfire, delicious meals, followed by restful nights beneath a celestial blanket. Our longstanding tradition of visiting Big Sur spans years, and if you haven't experienced its beauty, now is the perfect time to do so.

What to Expect

If you talk to any Californian, BIG SUR is on their list of most beautiful locations in California. This unique camping location is very difficult to reserve. We know the best spots to escape the crowds and get the best views! We are staying in a beautiful campsite at Kirk Creek Campground, with full ocean views, voted one of America's Top 100 Campsites!

Winter Whale Migration Information

"Gray whales can be seen from coast in Big Sur from December through February. On their northern migration, the Gray whales swim close to shore, with their babies on the shore side. This is often when the best viewing can take place because they are moving more slowly because of their young calves and also they are swimming against the current. The water is often filled with spouts going off one after another, looking like a long line of steam locomotives spouting out in the ocean."  www.bigsurcalifornia.org

Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to Big Sur! We recommend arriving in time to watch the sunset from our campsite. We will spend the night getting to know the group around a warm fire. Your host will have a delicious camp dinner ready, and the group will gather for card games, s'mores, and starry skies! SUNSET for Feb 2nd, 2024: 5:34pm

Day 2:

Rise and Shine! When you wake up, fresh brewed coffee will be waiting. We will have a breakfast of champions prepared by the awesome UD host. After breakfast, sandwich supplies will be provided, and we will all pack our sack lunches for the day (sack lunch supplies will be provided by UD, you assemble). Our day hike will bring us to the historic Espinosa bluff on the gorgeous Vicente trail. This is a moderate hike at 6 miles round trip, offering outstanding views of the coastline, wildflowers and rolling green hills! We have even seen migrating Gray whales from the trail in past years :D

After the hike, the rest of our Saturday afternoon is free time to choose your own adventure. Head to the beach, do some whale watching from the bluffs, chill in the hammock, or hang out at camp to socialize and play games. Your host will prepare a dinner feast and the rest of the group will get drinks pouring (BYOB). We'll spend the night eating, drinking, dancing, and telling campfire stories, let's do it right and live it up for our last night in Big Sur!

Day 3:

We will start our last day right with coffee and a delicious breakfast! Then it's time to pack up camp, check out is by 12pm. We'll all start the drive back home, with the option to stop at the famous McWay Falls, and the Bixby Bridge for a photo op. There's a lot of great viewpoints and places to explore around there, so if you have the extra time, we recommend doing a little extra exploring on your own before finishing the drive home.
