Hike/Bike Angel Island
Jul 03, 2010 (Saturday) - 10:00 AM    (must-be-a-member-to-attend)
Urban Diversion
UD-East Bay
Basic Details:

This is always a great day out so expect a good group!

Summer is here!!!  So why not join Urban Diversion on a beautiful bike ride on Angel Island? Also, often referred to as the "Jewel of the San Francisco Bay". Why bike over the Golden Gate Bridge, why bike in Marin, or Mt. Tamalpais when you can bike on this little Island and see them all! Urban Diversion are seeing this magnificent landmark in a way no other method can compare to.

This gem of the California State Park system offers panoramic vistas of the entire Bay, sightseers will enjoy picture-postcard views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Skyline, Marin, and Mt. Tamalpais. On a clear day the island is referred to as a 5 bridge day, when from the top of Mt. Livermore hikers can view the Golden Gate, Bay, Richmond/San Rafael, San Mateo and the Dumbarton bridges.

This event will prove to you why biking is the best way to see the Island and the Bay Area.

Schedule: Please be at the Clubhouse early if you wish to rent a bike from the bike store next door.

  • 10:00am  Meet at the clubhouse ( you can rent a bike by the clubhouse for $15-$20)
  • 10:30am  Leave clubhouse for Pier 41
  • 10:50am  Meet us at Pier 41 if you wish (no later in order to get tickets!)
  • 11:30am the Ferry leaves at Pier 41

Returning: The boat leaves Angel Island at 3:25pm or 4:15pm. The choice is yours which one you come back to San Francisco on... but will probably be the later of the two.

Any questions: Please call the EC phone, 415-710-3246

Note: You can Hike this trail also, if you don't want to bike.

Difficulty: This ride is 13 miles with some moderate hills. We will follow mostly bike trails. If you have never rode a bike before, this would be a perfect place to learn (aka beginner bikers welcome!), as our pace will be fairly slow with stops and snacks.

Attire: Prepare for hot and cold weather. Dress with layers!

Please bring the following:

  • Bicycle with lock (you can rent one next to the clubhouse for $20, tell them you are UD)
  • Helmet *Highly recommended*
  • Bike-Water-holder
  • Sunglasses
  • Layered clothing, as it can get hot and cold in the same day.

Price Includes:

  • Host to guide you around the Island
  • Maps
  • Water (you will have to pick this up from the clubhouse as we can't carry it for you)
  • Light Picnic lunch
