Info How is Urban Diversion different from other
social clubs?
Urban Diversion is a professionally organized social activities club with a community of active, friendly, and committed members. Our events are hosted by our professional trained staff. We DO NOT rely 100% of our events to be hosted by volunteers, like most free Social Clubs do. We alsoscreen each applicant for the safety of our members. We do not care how much money you make, what college you went to, it's more important to us that you are friendly, outgoing, sociable and want to meet new people!
Since we take the time to screen and get to know our members, Urban Diversion has a community like no other. At our events, you will not meet any weirdos, wackos or even rude or obnoxious people. Rather, you will meet active, friendly, professional members that also want to meet you!
Urban Diversion also is the only social activities club in the the Bay Area that offers over 40 events EVERY month. We offer the widest variety of activities so there are events for the
adventurous to the cultural; the spontaneous to the creative.
Finally,
Urban Diversion is the only social activities club in the Bay Area to
have it’s own Clubhouse. We use the Clubhouse for many of our events so we never have to worry about looking for a venue to have our dinners, games night, sushi making class, wine tasting, movie nights, Open House, etc.
Why
was Urban Diversion started?
Urban Diversion was started because there was not a social activities
club in the Bay Area that offered both community and a wide-variety of
exciting activities at a reasonable price. One of the founders, Lance, had previously been a
member of Mile High Adventures and Entertainment. He enjoyed the group,
but since they closed in 1999, he could not find anything to replace them.
Together, with his close friends Chris and Kumi, he launched Urban Diversion,
which follows many of the successes of MHAE (especially the wide-ranging
variety and mix of events), and then improved on the concept. The two
biggest differences? Urban Diversion has no expensive upfront fee –
members can join month to month, and most importantly Urban Diversion
has it’s own beautiful downtown clubhouse, the only social adventures
club in the Bay Area that can make this claim.
Why
do people join?
There are five main reasons members join us:
1. Those that are new to the city
2. Those that are complete workaholics and don't have any time to plan a social calendar
3. Those that are noticing their friends are getting married or having children and looking to expand their social cirlce
are looking for that someone special. Some say they find it more and more
4. Those that just got out of a long-term relationship
5. Those that want to try something new! They have great friends, but they find themselves in a rut and doing the same thing over and over again!
No matter the reason, Urban Diversion gives members the opportunity to
meet lots of new, exciting people and always have a full social calendar.
Is
Urban Diversion a singles club? NO. We are a social adventures club. You don’t have to be single
to join Urban Diversion, though over 90% of our members are single, and
what is a better way to meet someone than by doing fun things you already
love doing! Our events cater to both singles and those that have a significant
other. Here at Urban Diversion, our mission is simply to provide a fun
ambiance for you to meet other people while doing activities you enjoy.
Can
I meet people to date?
Absolutely! Like with any activity you participate in, you are going to
meet people with whom you share a mutual attraction. Often people in our
club end up in relationships and sometimes marriage. The great thing about
the club is, even if you don’t meet the man or woman of your dreams,
you will meet many quality people and still have fun. However, Urban Diversion is NOT a singles club, the main focus is great events and great people. Often members that come in under the pre-conception of a singles club can come across as 'desperate' to other members. Asking another member for a date or phone number on your first event is frowned upon. Get to know them first.
How
can I learn more about the club?
We have monthly FREE Open Houses at both the SF Clubhouse and the East Bay Sattelite Clubhouse. Our Open House is a great way to find out more info about Urban Diversion, meet the UD Team, UD members and other potential members over wine and appetizers in a casual atmosphere. Members What are your members like?
A wide-variety of people join Urban Diversion. Some are from the Bay Area.
Others are recent transplants. Though the majority of members are in their
20’s, 30’s and 40’s. We have slightly more female members
than male. Most are professionals. All share one common thread, they are
active people looking to expand their social lives and want to meet new people like you!
How
do I know I will meet people that I like?
Do you like friendly active people? Since Urban Diversion is based around activities
you will quickly meet people with whom you share common interests. Many
of these people will become friends and some will turn into solid relationships. Plus,
at Urban Diversion, it's easy to meet people, because we deliver a personal touch to all our events. We don't just throw you into a group of people you don't know and make you introduce yourself. Rather, we do the introductions for you. So, it's like meeting a friend of a friend, rather than a complete stranger. It doesn't matter if you have never been to our event or have been a member for years. We still introduce you to everyone. That way, over time, after seeing other members at various events, you will start to recognize them, which builds up a great social community.
Is
there an average age?
The majority of our members are in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, with the 50% of members being in their 30s. If you are mature and can keep up, then come along
for the fun! We do not accept anyone under 22.
Fees How much does it cost to join Urban Diversion?
Our memberships are very affordable and there are NO large upfront fees.

What
do the monthly membership fees pay for?
Membership fees pay for the planning and hosting of all the events, for
the clubhouse upkeep and for the marketing needed to attract new members
for you to meet.
Will
the fees ever go up?
Members who sign contracts are locked in at that rate and will never see
their fees increase. Non-contract fees may be adjusted to reflect increasing
costs. Members will always be notified at least 30 days in advance of
any fee increase.
May
I “lock-in” the current rate fee?
Yes! If you choose the lower priced contract membership. Contract memberships
are still paid monthly, but on a contract basis for a set time frame.
After the contract expires you will still be locked-in at the same low
rate on a month-to-month basis.
How
much do you charge for the events?
We do try to price our events at retail or less, so you know you will not pay
more for an Urban Diversion event than you would on your own. We provide
a wide price range of events so both people on a budget, as well as people
with greater disposable income, can enjoy themselves. The majority of
our events are under $50, many of which under $20 and some free. Every
month we offer a few events over $100, such as weekend trips. Ticketed
events may have a small handling fee added on to the price charged by
the box office.
I
joined another club that charged me over $1,000. I feel like I wasted
my money. How do I know that won’t happen again?
Urban Diversion doesn’t charge high upfront membership fees. We
are quite sure you’ll have the time of your life at Urban Diversion.
But if you don’t, with our low month-to-month membership, you can
cancel anytime and you have only spent a few dollars.
Policies What are the policies on
member behavior?
Our members trust us that they will have fun in a safe and comfortable
environment. Members must conduct themselves in a civil and respectful
manner at all times. Any lewd or obnoxious behavior at an event or in
the clubhouse may result in termination of membership without refund.
Members are also responsible for the behavior of their guests at events
or at the clubhouse.
Can
I drink at the clubhouse?
Yes. You are welcome to bring alcohol to the club for consumption. However,
if you are driving, please exercise caution. In addition, anyone who is
drunk or disorderly on club premises will be asked to leave and may forfeit
their membership.
Can
I smoke at the clubhouse?
Smoking is prohibited at the club and on the patio. If you would like
to smoke, you must go out the door on Columbus Street. Please do not smoke
directly in front of the door.
Membership What is a Membership Candidate?
All accepted new members are considered 'Membership Candidates' until
they have attended at least four events and have been approved by the
membership committee. More details are available here.
Why
do you review membership candidates?
Our members are important to us and our concern for their safety, comfort
and overall satisfaction are critical to the community feel of our club.
We review each membership to ensure that he or she will enjoy our club
and that our current members will feel comfortable with that person.
Can
I bring guests to events?
Absolutely! We operate different than other clubs, and welcome you to
bring guests to almost all of our events, because that is how our club
grows. The fee for bringing a guest to an event is the price of the event
plus a nominal guest fee. All fees associated with the guest are charged
to the member when signing up for the event. If the guest ends up becoming
a member, the member will receive a referral credit on their monthly
membership fee. There is a maximum number of guests that a member can bring to a single event as set by each membership type.
Can
I try out the club before I join?
Unlike many other organzations with memberships, we offer a 21-day trial period for you to try the club out. Every new member who joins gets the opportunity to 'test drive' the club. To get a real feel for our club you need to attend a minimum of 2 events. If after 2 events within 21 days you decided that Urban Diversion is not the place for you, let us know and we will cancel any contract you have with us and refund your initiation fee.
Activities How many activities do you plan and host
each month?
Currently we plan over 40 different activities every month. As our membership
grows, we will continue to expand the number of activities to give you
even more choices.
How
many activities can I do each month?
It depends on your level of membership. If you are a Gold Member, you can go to all of them. Silver members can attend 8 events (Bronze members can attend 4 events) per month. Any evnet that is Open to the Public is not considered against one of your events.
What
do the Event Coordinators (EC’s) do?
The EC’s are professional event planners who organize and host the
events. They attend every event they plan and ensure that members are
meeting one another and having a good time.
Could
I plan and host an event?
Yes. We allow members to host events if they are outgoing, friendly and
detail oriented. We need you to be amember for a minimum of 3 months, so the other members can get to know you as well. We also ask you to go through a short training. Once
approved as a “Member EC” you will work with us to fit your
event into our calendar.
Clubhouse What is so special about the clubhouse?
After being a member for a few months, the Clubhouse is your home away
from home. It’s a great place to go before or after events or just
hang out with Urban Diversion friends. The Lounge is filled with plush,
comfortable couches to kick back and relax in. The couches are moveable,
so we can create space for a dance floor when members get the urge to
boogie. The Entertainment Room is more intimate and perfect for conversation
Our Tiki Bar has played host to Martini Mixing night and Wine Tasting.
We also have a foosball table, dart board, plenty of fun games and our patio deck and barbeque.
